High Court Freezes Assets of Nairobi Official

The High Court has frozen the bank accounts of the former Chief Planning Officer for the Nairobi City County Government, Patrick Analoh Akivaga, after detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seized 65 million shillings at his home on June 4, 2026.

The freeze order also affects the accounts of his wife, Damaris Sindavi Kayugira, who is employed by the Vihiga County Government, targeting their accounts held at KCB, Equity, and Co-operative banks.

High Court Anti-Corruption Division Judge Rose Ougo issued the directive following an application by the EACC. The judge noted that preliminary investigations show the couple cannot explain the source of the funds discovered at their residence in Syokimau, Machakos County.

The EACC informed the court that it is continuing to investigate allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of office, bribery, and possession of unexplained wealth against Akivaga and his wife.

The commission noted that both individuals are public officers serving in Nairobi and Vihiga counties, respectively. Following the discovery of the cash, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja suspended Akivaga from office.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has ordered that Akivaga and several others be arraigned in court following the collapse of a building in South C, Nairobi, which resulted in multiple fatalities.
