Anti-immigrant protesters have burned buildings and vehicles in the Northern Irish capital of Belfast, a day after a knife attack allegedly carried out by an immigrant from Sudan.

The AFP news agency reported that hundreds of masked protesters gathered in several areas of Belfast, throwing petrol bombs and blocking roads.

A passenger bus and several cars were set on fire, while a building also caught fire, forcing its residents to be evacuated. The incident that sparked the unrest was recorded on video, and reports state that the suspect in the attack has already been charged with attempted murder.

Anti-immigration politicians and activists are demanding that his name be released after the Home Office confirmed that the accused is an immigrant from Sudan.
