The government has officially begun the distribution of laptops and interactive smartboards to 10,382 public Junior Schools across the country in a move aimed at enhancing digital learning.
Under the programme, every Junior School will receive one laptop and one interactive smartboard to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum and improve access to technology in classrooms.
The initiative is being implemented under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project, KDEAP, and is seen as a major step in the government’s efforts to modernize the education sector and accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.
Speaking during the launch ceremony in Nairobi, Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke said the government remains committed to equipping learners with the digital skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.
Isaboke noted that the programme complements ongoing investments in digital infrastructure, including the rollout of fibre optic connectivity and the establishment of digital hubs across the country.
He emphasized that learners in remote and marginalized areas should have equal access to educational opportunities and modern learning tools, just like their counterparts in urban centres.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, saying it will improve teaching and learning outcomes while preparing students for the demands of the digital economy.
