Opposition leaders, including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa, have begun a three-day tour of Western Kenya, accusing President William Ruto of betraying the Luhya community by failing to honor 2022 pre-election pledges.
During rallies in locations like Luanda and Khayega, Gachagua displayed a copy of an agreement between the President, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetang’ula, which allegedly promised the region 30% of government appointments and major infrastructure projects.
The leaders claimed that promised projects, such as 1,000 km of roads and a fish processing plant, have stalled, and sugar factories like Mumias and Nzoia are being sold rather than revived. They urged the community to unite behind a single presidential candidate for 2027, while Cleophas Malala warned of nationwide protests if victims of recent demonstrations are not compensated by June 25.
