Canada and Bosnia Draw in World Cup Opener

This year’s World Cup co-hosts, Canada, were held to a one-all draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening Group D match on Friday night at the BMO Field in Toronto.

The visitors, Bosnia, took the lead in the 24th minute through Sead Kolasinac, who connected with Ivan Basic’s corner kick to guide his team ahead into the halftime break. The hosts, ‘The Reds’, returned for the second half with high intensity, dominating possession and launching frequent counter-attacks.

However, Bosnia—also known as ‘The Dragons’—defended resolutely for most of the second half.

Canada’s two second-half substitutes, Cyle Larin and Promise David, combined brilliantly, with Promise unleashing a powerful strike to equalize just 12 minutes before the final whistle.

This marked the first point for Canada, who are making their fifth appearance in the World Cup tournament.
