Kenya has intensified disease surveillance across counties and Points of Entry as the country responds to reported cases of Mpox, Dengue fever and Measles.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration said the government is strengthening preparedness, surveillance and response measures to prevent further spread of the diseases.
Mpox cases have been reported in 40 counties, with Mombasa, Nairobi and Busia recording the highest numbers. The Ministry of Health is conducting laboratory testing to confirm suspected cases and has integrated Mpox management into routine healthcare services.
Dengue fever cases have mainly been reported in Garissa and Wajir, with suspected deaths currently under investigation. The government has strengthened coordination between national and county health teams, laboratory testing, case management, infection prevention and community awareness.
Measles cases have also been reported in Baringo, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera and Garissa. No deaths have been reported, while health teams continue with active case searches, surveillance, treatment and community sensitisation.
Kenya has also stepped-up preparedness against Ebola. The government says no Ebola case has been confirmed in the country, with suspected cases testing negative. Four laboratories have been designated to conduct Ebola testing: the National Public Health Laboratory, KEMRI Nairobi, KEMRI Kisumu and a mobile laboratory serving Busia and Bungoma.
Health authorities are also increasing surveillance at Points of Entry, where travellers and vehicles are being screened. Border communities are being sensitised, while multi-agency teams involving the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service and national administration officers have been trained to strengthen surveillance at informal border crossings, truck-driver stopovers and other high-traffic areas.
The government has urged members of the public to remain vigilant, follow verified health guidance and promptly report suspected cases to health facilities or relevant authorities.
