Gachagua courts us Diaspora with promises of tax reforms and executive roles

Date:

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has stepped up his engagements with the Kenyan diaspora, issuing a series of assurances aimed at addressing tax burdens, political representation, and financial security for citizens living abroad.

Addressing members of the Kenyan community during a town hall engagement in Portland, Oregon, Gachagua pledged to reform policies affecting Kenyans in the diaspora if his coalition takes power in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

Gachagua highlighted complaints from Kenyans abroad over being taxed both in their host nations and in Kenya, promising to introduce a fair taxation mechanism.

The former Deputy President outlined plans to recruit qualified diaspora professionals directly into Kenyan embassies, as well as appoint experts in health and economic recovery to leadership positions back home.

Building on long-standing diaspora concerns regarding fraudulent investment channels back home, he reiterated the need for government-backed instruments, such as target savings funds, to secure investments against fraud.

Gachagua pledged to prioritize constitutionalism, eliminate extrajudicial actions, and protect the political and economic rights of Kenyans both locally and overseas.

“Our new government will prioritize attracting the most experienced professionals abroad—especially in the fields of health and economic recovery—to return home and contribute their expertise,” Gachagua stated following the meeting.

The Oregon meeting forms part of a broader outreach tour across key hubs in the United States as political leaders build early momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
