Tetu Member of Parliament Geoffrey Wandeto has issued a sharp warning against political corruption and voter inducement, asserting that electoral bribery threatens the core of free voter choice in Kenya.
Speaking during a national television panel on campaign financing reform, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker highlighted how unchecked financial flows are distorting electoral processes and coercing citizens.
“Voter bribery is at an all-time high, and voters are not being allowed to make a free choice; it almost looks like an inducement to vote in a certain way,”
The lawmaker highlighted the heavy financial pressures involved in political rallies, pointing to widespread claims that attendees at political gatherings are routinely paid between Ksh 500 and Ksh 1,000 to swell crowd sizes.
Wandeto argued that without strict campaign finance compliance and standardized accounting rules, money will continue to dominate policy arguments. He urged political institutions to establish transparent campaign monitoring frameworks that prevent financial power from silencing genuine voter intent.
Wandeto’s critique forms part of a broader stance against systemic graft. The lawmaker has previously cautioned that political and public-sector corruption undermines long-term national development goals, warning that digital systems and regulatory mandates alone cannot fix ethical failures without political will and strict enforcement.
As Kenya shifts its gaze toward upcoming electoral cycles, Wandeto called for progressive enforcement of campaign regulation rules, stressing that reform must begin immediately to guarantee fair competition.
