Five people have been confirmed dead following a tragic night collision involving a bus and a private vehicle at Kikopey along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

The crash occurred late Sunday night along the notorious highway blackspot. Emergency response teams and local police arrived shortly after the incident to secure the scene, extricate victims from the wreckage, and divert traffic.

Gilgil police authorities confirmed the five fatalities. Survivors who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to nearby health facilities, including the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital, for urgent emergency medical care.

Preliminary investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash, with authorities assessing potential factors such as speeding, visibility issues, or mechanical failure. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the hospital mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.
