Ruto announces September 30 launch for Lamu oil refinery

Date:

President William Ruto has announced that the Lamu oil refinery will be officially launched on September 30, in what is expected to be a major development for Kenya’s oil and energy sector.

Speaking to journalists during a live interview at the Kisumu State Lodge, President Ruto said the launch of the refinery, which is being developed by Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, will be attended by several heads of state from the East African region.

“The launch will be attended by several Presidents from the East African region,” President Ruto said.

The President said the project is expected to strengthen Kenya’s position in the region’s energy sector while creating new opportunities for investment and economic growth.

At the same time, President Ruto revealed that plans are underway to establish a pipeline linking Lamu to Turkana. The proposed pipeline would facilitate the transportation of crude oil produced in Turkana to Lamu for refining.

“There is a plan to connect Lamu to Turkana through a pipeline so that the crude oil produced in Turkana can be refined,” Ruto said.

The proposed pipeline is expected to improve Kenya’s oil transportation infrastructure and support the growth of the country’s petroleum industry.

President Ruto is currently on a working tour of the Nyanza region, where he is expected to launch and inspect several development projects. The tour also includes engagements with local leaders and communities as the government highlights ongoing development programmes in the region.
