Gachagua acclaims Sifuna’s mega rally in Nairobi, declares capital city “locked” for 2027

Date:

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his “Linda Mwananchi” brigade following a political rally held across the capital on Sunday. Addressing supporters, Gachagua claimed the massive turnout signals a major shift in Nairobi’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The procession began with a church service at All Saints Cathedral before Sifuna, accompanied by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other opposition leaders, led thousands of marchers through Marikiti, Gikomba markets, and Eastlands, eventually culminating in a rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

Reacting to the day’s events, Gachagua argued that the coalition—which includes himself, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Senator Sifuna, and MP Babu Owino—commands solid support across Nairobi’s estimated 2.7 million registered voters.

Gachagua highlighted that an opposition alliance involving himself, Kalonzo Musyoka, Sifuna, and Babu Owino could deliver up to 2.5 million votes from the capital.

Gachagua commended Sifuna for mobilizing thousands of supporters despite heavy police presence and security lockdowns in parts of the Central Business District.

During the rally at Marikiti, Sifuna voiced his intention to contest the presidency in 2027, calling for unity among opposition figures to mount a successful challenge against incumbent President William Ruto.

Gachagua emphasized that the turnout at Jacaranda Grounds demonstrated growing public opposition, asserting that the administration faces a formidable political challenge in Nairobi.
