The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially designated Tuesday, August 10, 2027, as the date for Kenya’s next General Election, putting to rest legal and political speculation surrounding the electoral timeline.
In a formal public notice and gazette publication, the Commission outlined the operational roadmap governing the poll, triggering key compliance deadlines for political parties, public officers, and aspirants across all six elective tiers.
Pursuant to Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya and the Elections Act, the electoral body formally published the notices and campaign financing frameworks governing the 2027 cycle.
Voters will go to the polls to elect six positions: President, Members of the National Assembly, Senators, County Governors, County Woman Representatives, and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).
The gazettement brings into immediate force the Electoral Code of Conduct and the Election Offences Act, prohibiting unauthorized early campaigning and setting strict operational rules for political actors.
The Commission warned political parties and aspirants against engaging in premature campaigning, displaying unauthorized billboards, or orchestrating campaign caravans prior to the official campaign window.
The IEBC stated that severe non-compliance—including violence, intimidation, or gross breaches of the Electoral Code of Conduct—could result in legal action, including applying to the High Court to disqualify non-compliant candidates or parties. Political actors and voters have been urged to maintain peace, ensure voter details are verified, and observe constitutional bounds throughout the election cycle.
