Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has strongly dismissed assertions that President William Ruto has lost political backing in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region, maintaining that the electorate remains firmly behind the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Addressing public forums and regional stakeholders, CS Ruku argued that narrative shifts regarding the region’s political stance are driven by personal grievances rather than a genuine fallout between the public and the presidency. He specifically pointed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to hold the region to ransom through political rhetoric following his impeachment.
Ruku emphasized that the political dispute is isolated to Gachagua’s personal fallout with the administration and does not reflect the broader sentiment of the Mount Kenya electorate.
The Cabinet Secretary defended Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, reassuring supporters that Kindiki commands full respect, plays a critical role in the executive, and remains a central pillar of the administration’s 2027 strategy.
Ruku highlighted that Mount Kenya East—encompassing Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties—continues to prioritize development partnerships with the national government over political theatrics, standing firmly behind ongoing development projects.
He cautioned against using isolated local outcomes, such as recent by-elections, as a national benchmark, describing them as localized contests that do not dictate general election trends.
CS Ruku reiterated that the government’s scorecards in agriculture, infrastructure, and public service reforms will speak for themselves when the region evaluates the administration. He urged leaders across the region to abandon divisive politics and prioritize economic growth and unity.
“There is no problem between the community and President William Ruto,” Ruku noted, urging residents not to let personal political disputes derail ongoing development gains.
