High court set to deliver judgment in 2018 Sharon Otieno murder case.

The judgment in the 2018 murder case of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno is expected to be delivered today, Thursday, by the Milimani High Court.

Former Migori County Governor Okoth Obado, former Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo, and former Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero are accused of killing the pregnant student.

The late Sharon was abducted on September 3, 2018, before her body was found a day later in Kodera Forest, Homa Bay County.

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), which has been at the forefront of representing the deceased’s family, stated that it wants justice served following the brutal murder.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, a total of 42 witnesses took the stand to testify during the hearing of the case.

The case sparked strong reactions from the public, non-governmental organizations, and human rights activists, who demanded justice for the deceased and severe punishment for all those involved.

During the meeting, President Ruto and the British envoy agreed to leverage the Kenya United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) to boost bilateral trade, attract more investment, and unlock greater economic opportunities for both nations.

The President also briefed High Commissioner Baugh on the implementation of Kenya’s National Infrastructure Fund, highlighting the government’s efforts to mobilize strategic investments to finance key infrastructure projects that will drive the country’s economic transformation.

The two explored potential areas of collaboration to accelerate development through increased investment and innovation.

The discussions also focused on regional peace and security, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to supporting stability across the region. They emphasized that peace and security remain critical to fostering sustainable development, economic growth, and shared prosperity.

Tana River Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana has been recognized as the Best Performing Senator on Oversight, earning the prestigious award in recognition of his contribution to strengthening accountability and effective oversight in the Senate.

Receiving the honour, Senator Mungatana dedicated the award to the people of Tana River County, thanking them for their continued trust and support. Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with the Republic of Cyprus, saying the partnership will unlock greater investment, trade and employment opportunities for Kenyans.

Speaking after meeting the outgoing High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Kenya, H.E. Mr. Savvas Vladimirou, who is concluding his tour of duty, Mudavadi thanked the envoy for his dedication and contribution to deepening the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

Mudavadi noted that effective diplomacy is measured not only by the strength of relationships between nations but also by the opportunities those partnerships create for their people.

During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to concluding several key bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in agriculture, air transport, mutual recognition of academic qualifications, and the elimination of double taxation. Marsabit Lawyers join nationwide LSK court boycott over judiciary reforms

Marsabit County lawyers have officially joined a nationwide court boycott called by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), demanding faster case resolution, structural reforms, and greater accountability within the Judiciary.

Speaking on Wednesday, LSK Marsabit Branch representative John Behailu confirmed that local advocates downed their tools to protest systemic delays and corruption that continue to deny citizens timely justice. Behailu emphasized that lawyers will not tolerate judicial decisions that fail to uphold the law, while also cautioning Marsabit residents against hiring unlicensed practitioners whose unlawful representation risks having legitimate cases dismissed.

At the national level, LSK President Charles Kanjama reported strong compliance with the strike across the country. Speaking outside the Supreme Court in Nairobi, Kanjama raised concerns over judges who have proceeded with matters despite receiving formal notice of the boycott, resulting in case dismissals and financial penalties levied against absent lawyers. In response, the LSK is documenting these instances and preparing a total walkout before the affected judicial officers.

The LSK leadership is scheduled to meet with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on July 31 to address these critical issues. Chief among the Society’s grievances is the Judiciary’s failure to publish individual judicial performance metrics, an omission the LSK claims marks a retreat from earlier commitments to institutional transparency.

Turkana County urged to investigate corrupt market committee in Kakuma

Small-scale vendors at the Kakuma Municipality Market have raised the alarm over widespread extortion, demanding an immediate investigation by the Turkana County Government into the market’s management committee over allegations of bribery, illegal levies, and lack of transparency.

The traders, drawn from both the local host community and the refugee population, accuse the committee of charging exorbitant, unauthorized fees for stall allocations. Vendors report being forced to pay up to KSh 30,000 to secure a trading space a figure far exceeding the official county rates.

On top of standard county enforcement and maintenance fees, vendors allege they are subjected to arbitrary charges, including a KSh 3,000 “chairman’s fee” and an unmonitored KSh 2,000 contribution toward a women’s welfare fund.

“We have questioned these funds since 2023. The money has not benefited members, even during bereavements when the welfare fund was supposed to help,” one trader stated, emphasizing that most vendors survive on micro-loans to stock basic produce like vegetables.

Beyond financial exploitation, traders questioned the legitimacy of the current leadership, noting that the management committee has held office for nearly two decades without an election. When the committee was originally established, registration was set at KSh 7,000, but vendors say leadership has since operated entirely without accountability or democratic oversight.

The economic strain on vendors dates back to 2007, when their original settlement was demolished and residents were relocated. Many have struggled to secure formal employment since, with vendors claiming that even low-tier casual work such as wheelbarrow transport within the market—is strictly monopolized by individuals linked to committee leaders.

In addition to management corruption, traders are calling for county intervention on market regulation. They cited severe price manipulation by external suppliers who inflate costs on staple commodities like potatoes and cabbages when supply is low. Vendors are urging local authorities to establish clear policies that separate farmers from traders to ensure fair allocation of spaces and equitable pricing.

Facing mounting loan repayments and county taxes, the vendors have appealed to the Turkana County Government to step in, audit the committee’s financial records, mandate leadership elections, and establish a transparent system to protect vulnerable small-scale businesses.

Marsabit County Women Representative Hon. Naomi Jillo Waqo has called on local residents to acquire practical skills to improve their livelihoods and elevate their living standards. She made the remarks on Tuesday while presiding over the distribution of tools, equipment, and startup materials to local community groups engaged in income-generating activities in North Horr.

The initiative aims to move beyond temporary relief by providing residents with productive assets and hands-on skills. Among the items distributed were tents, chairs, and specialized equipment for masonry, carpentry, welding, electrical installation, and plumbing. Additionally, beneficiaries received resources for soap and detergent production, beekeeping, handcrafts, beadwork, umbrella sales, and foodstuff enterprises.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Hon. Waqo emphasized that long-term community growth relies on self-sufficiency. “Meaningful empowerment is about giving our people tools to create employment, generate sustainable incomes, and improve the well-being of their families and communities,” she stated.

The legislator noted that the intervention specifically targets women and youth as part of a broader strategy to foster entrepreneurship and inclusive development across Marsabit County. Shabana FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season with the signing of promising striker Luis Ingavi, who joins the Glamour Boys from Montverde Academy in the United States after two years abroad.

Ingavi, born in 2006 and hailing from Kapsara village in Trans Nzoia County, is regarded as one of Kenya’s brightest young attacking talents with His football journey beggining to attract national attention in 2022 during the Trans Nzoia County Secondary School Games, where he emerged as the top scorer while representing Goseta Boys High School.

His impressive performances earned him a four-year football scholarship at Montverde Academy in the United States, one of the country’s renowned football development institutions. During his time there, Ingavi continued to impress, establishing himself among the academy’s leading goal scorers while sharpening his technical and tactical abilities.

On the international stage, Ingavi represented Kenya’s U-18 Junior Stars at the 2023 CECAFA U-18 Championship under coach William Muluya, helping Kenya finish as runners-up in the regional tournament.

The talented forward also earned a place in Kenya’s U-20 national team during the 2024 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers held in Malawi under coach Salim Babu, further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s most exciting young prospects.

Now back in Kenya, Ingavi has signed for Shabana FC, popularly known as Tore Bobe, with the ambition of helping the Kisii-based giants challenge for domestic honours.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, the youngster described Shabana as one of Kenya’s biggest and most historic football clubs, boasting one of the largest and most passionate fan bases, particularly across the Nyanza region.

“Joining Shabana is a dream come true. It is a club with a rich history and incredible supporters. The training and experience I gained in the United States have prepared me for this challenge, and I am ready to give my best,” said Ingavi.

The striker expressed confidence that the experience he gained in the United States will enable him to make an immediate impact in the FKF Premier League. He revealed that his personal target for the upcoming season is to score more than 35 goals and help Shabana FC win the FKF Premier League title.

Ingavi also sent a message to the club’s supporters, assuring them that they should expect exciting performances and plenty of goals from him during the new campaign.

His arrival is expected to boost Shabana’s attacking options as the club intensifies preparations for the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season, with fans hopeful that the highly-rated striker can live up to his promise and help restore the club to the summit of Kenyan football.

Former Hillside coach ‘Marcello’ appointed Compel FC head coach

Former Hillside FC tactician Robert Ejore Lobouin, popularly known as Marcello, has been appointed head coach of Compel FC in Webuye, Bungoma County.

Marcello joins Compel after leaving Hillside FC at the end of the 2025/26 season, when the Turkana-based club disbanded its technical bench during a restructuring.

Under his two seasons as head coach, Marcello guided Hillside to promotion to the FKF Division One League, the club’s first time in one of Kenya’s top divisions. He had earlier served as assistant coach for three seasons.

Known for tactical discipline, player development and attacking football, Marcello helped turn Hillside into one of Turkana’s fastest-rising clubs and a platform for young talent from Turkana and neighboring counties.

Compel FC said the appointment reflects confidence in his ability to build a competitive squad and push for success.

Fans from Turkana and across the country have congratulated Marcello, thanking him for his role in Hillside’s rise. Expectations are now high that he can replicate that success with Compel FC.
