More than 1.2 million elderly persons and people living with severe disabilities have started receiving payments under the government’s Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme following the release of Ksh.2.426 billion for the June 2026 payment cycle.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, payments began on August 3, with each beneficiary receiving Ksh.2,000.
Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph Motari said the programme remains a key pillar of the government’s efforts to reduce poverty and improve the welfare of vulnerable households.
“The Inua Jamii programme remains a key pillar of the government’s strategy to cushion vulnerable households from poverty and improve their general welfare,” said Motari.
The programme targets people aged 70 years and above, as well as persons living with severe disabilities who require continued social and financial support.
The latest disbursement is expected to help beneficiaries meet essential needs, including food, healthcare and other household expenses, while easing the financial burden on families caring for elderly persons and people with severe disabilities.
“Regular cash transfers are critical in reducing the financial burden faced by elderly citizens and households caring for people with severe disabilities,” the ministry said in a statement issued on August 4, 2026.
