Arsenal agree £75m deal to sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United

Date:

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of club captain Bruno Guimarães.

Following weeks of intensive negotiations, the Gunners have met Newcastle’s valuation with a £75 million up-front fee with no performance-related add-ons. The 28-year-old Brazil international midfielder had expressed a desire to move to North London, leading to an amicable resolution between the two Premier League clubs.

Mikel Arteta identified Guimarães as a top summer priority to strengthen Arsenal’s engine room alongside Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice.

Although Newcastle wished to retain their captain, Guimarães declined to discuss a contract extension and informed new manager Matthias Jaissle of his desire for a new challenge in London.

Having signed Guimarães from Lyon for £38m in January 2022, Newcastle nearly double their investment, allowing them to reinvest the guaranteed funds directly back into their squad.
