President William Ruto hosted senior United States defense and diplomatic officials at State House, Nairobi, to reinforce strategic bilateral security cooperation and address mounting stability challenges across the Horn of Africa and the broader continent.
The high-level bilateral meeting brought together US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander General Dagvin Anderson and United States Embassy Charge d’Affaires Susan Burns. Discussions centered on expanding joint counter-terrorism initiatives, optimizing emergency response readiness, and streamlining logistical support for humanitarian assistance in vulnerable and conflict-affected regions.
Taking to X to highlight the significance of the engagement, President Ruto posted:
“At State House Nairobi, met US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander General Dagvin Anderson, who was accompanied by United States Embassy Charge d’Affaires Susan Burns.
Africa continues to work closely with AFRICOM to roll back transnational threats, disrupt extremist organisations, manage emergency responses and coordinate the provision of humanitarian assistance.
This partnership is crucial to our continent because peace, stability and security are critical ingredients for accelerated development, integration, intra-trade and prosperity.”
Crucially, the President directly connected defense cooperation to Africa’s broader economic trajectory, signaling that military and security collaboration directly serves the continent’s socio-economic goals.
He underscored that peace, stability, and security serve as the fundamental bedrocks for continental integration, accelerated development, and expanded intra-African trade under initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Looking ahead, both sides expressed a shared commitment to sustaining defense initiatives, intelligence sharing, and military training programs.
By establishing a secure and predictable regional landscape, the partnership aims to attract foreign direct investment, foster economic resilience, and secure long-term prosperity across the continent.
