Former Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane launches comeback bid for 2027 gubernatorial seat

Date:

Former Garissa County Governor Ali Bunow Korane has officially launched his campaign to reclaim the county’s top seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Speaking to supporters and key community stakeholders, Korane expressed his determination to return to office to complete the development agenda and institutional reforms he initiated during his 2017–2022 tenure.

Korane emphasized that his primary motivation for seeking re-election is to fulfill key infrastructure, peacebuilding, and economic development projects that were left incomplete.

As part of his campaign promises, the former governor pledged to review human resource decisions made by the current administration, including addressing the grievances of county officials dismissed following post-2022 audits.

Korane signaled his intent to contest the seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, aligning his regional platform with President William Ruto’s administration.

The campaign momentum follows key consultative engagements, including endorsements from local elder councils and religious leaders in Garissa Town.

Korane served as the second Governor of Garissa County from 2017 to 2022. His 2027 bid sets the stage for a high-stakes gubernatorial contest against incumbent political rivals in the region.
