EACC arrests KRA Official in Kisumu over tax compliance bribery allegation

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehends a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer in Kisumu following allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

The suspect, Hughes Obilo an officer attached to the Debt Refunds Department in Kisumu was arrested on September 14, 2026. According to the commission, Obilo allegedly demanded KES 100,000 from a local construction firm in exchange for irregularly clearing KES 4.5 million in outstanding tax arrears on the Tax platform and facilitating the issuance of a Tax Compliance Certificate.

The suspect was taken into custody pending further investigative procedures and legal action
