Wiper Patriotic Front party leader and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, convened a high-stakes joint meeting of the opposition coalition’s top organs at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi.
The critical session brought together the coalition’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Azimio Council, chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, to chart the political direction for the united opposition.
The meeting focused on consolidating opposition ranks and re-strategizing ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Musyoka reaffirmed that the coalition is actively engaging third-party outfits and youth-led groups, including the Linda Mwananchi movement, to broaden the anti-government front.
Musyoka firmly ruled out any possibility of joining forces with President William Ruto’s administration, shutting down speculation regarding political talks with ruling party emissaries.
Following recent leadership changes within Azimio that saw key positions reorganized—including the appointment of Suba South MP Caroli Omondi as Secretary-General—the joint council evaluated internal reforms designed to convert the coalition into an active “government-in-waiting”.
Azimio leaders noted that dialogue remains open with other key political leaders—including Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—as consultations continue toward forging a single opposition platform.
“We have clearly visualized the way forward for the opposition. We are preparing a broad-based, united front that will deliver national renewal,” stated Kalonzo Musyoka during the briefing.
