Kenya has renewed its commitment to supporting peace efforts in Sudan, warning that ending the conflict is critical for regional stability, trade and security in East Africa.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said Kenya will continue backing diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a lasting solution to Sudan’s crisis through dialogue rather than military confrontation.
Speaking during the third IGAD meeting that brought together special envoys and representatives involved in Sudan’s peace process, Mudavadi said Kenya supports ongoing regional and international initiatives seeking to end the conflict.
He said Nairobi welcomes peace efforts including the Jeddah Agreement process and the Quad strategy, while supporting interventions by the African Union, IGAD and the United Nations Security Council.
“Kenya remains committed to creating opportunities that will lead to lasting solutions through dialogue and not conflict,” Mudavadi said.
The Cabinet Secretary said restoring peace in Sudan is not only a humanitarian priority but also a key step towards protecting East Africa’s economic and security interests.
“By bringing peace to Sudan, we safeguard regional stability, expand opportunities for trade and investment, strengthen border security and improve the economy of East Africa,” he said.
Sudan has been facing a devastating conflict that has displaced millions of people and disrupted economic activity in the region, raising concerns among neighbouring countries over humanitarian pressures, insecurity and cross-border challenges.
Mudavadi said Kenya will continue working with regional and international partners to strengthen an Africa-led peace process and support efforts aimed at restoring stability in Sudan.
He added that Kenya remains committed to playing its role as a reliable partner in advancing peace and security across the continent.
