Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has issued a fiery rebuke against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, demanding that he stop using the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s name for political leverage.
Speaking during a development tour at Nyakiamo Stadium on Wednesday, Wanga told the Democracy for Change Party (DCP) leader to show respect for the late opposition icon and desist from invoking his memory in ongoing political campaigns.
Wanga’s comments came shortly after Gachagua made public remarks questioning the circumstances surrounding the death of the veteran politician.
Wanga urged Gachagua to focus on his own political movement and refrain from dragging Raila Odinga into public spats.
“Leave Baba Raila Amolo Odinga alone to rest in peace in heaven,” Wanga declared to the crowd.
The governor recalled Gachagua’s fierce opposition to Raila during the anti-government demonstrations. She claimed Gachagua supported harsh measures against the opposition leader at the time, noting:
“We have not forgotten that one day you said if Raila goes to protests, you yourself would kill him… You said Baba must be sent back to Bondo.”
Wanga criticized Gachagua for never visiting the Odinga family in Karen or paying his respects at Raila’s burial site, despite regularly bringing up his name.
“You have never set foot in Karen to offer your condolences to Mama Ida Odinga… But every day since Baba was laid to rest, you wake up with rumors, lies, and careless statements in the name of Baba Raila Amolo Odinga,” she added.
