Opposition leaders led by Kalonzo Musyoka tour Garissa ahead of 2027 elections

Date:

GARISSA-Opposition leaders led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have toured Garissa County as they seek support from residents ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The leaders addressed residents at Mugdi Market in Garissa town, where Kalonzo urged residents to obtain national identification cards and register in large numbers as voters.

Kalonzo said the democratic way for Kenyans to change leadership is through the ballot, urging residents to turn out in large numbers and exercise their right to vote.

He also called on residents to respect every citizen’s right to support the political side of their choice, whether the government or the opposition, without resorting to violence.

Kalonzo further urged people living in Garissa County not to leave the area during the election period but instead register as voters where they reside so they can participate in the electoral process.

On his part, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa strongly criticised some county leaders, accusing them of inciting communities and threatening peace.

Wamalwa said opposition leaders are currently holding consultations aimed at reaching an agreement on a single candidate who will carry the opposition banner against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Wamalwa also claimed that while he was in government, he allocated disaster response funds to Garissa County, but the money was never properly utilised.

Another opposition leader in the delegation, Justin Muturi, urged residents to turn out and vote on election day before returning home peacefully to await the results.

Muturi also criticised the government over the provision of healthcare services, particularly challenges surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA).

He further accused the government of failing to provide adequate security for citizens, claiming that the country has lost a large number of young people under circumstances that raise questions.
