SHA boosts emergency response infrastructure with new dispatch center at Garissa referral hospital

Date:

As part of ongoing national reforms to modernize healthcare delivery, teams from the Social Health Authority (SHA) have gathered at the Garissa County Referral Hospital to make final preparations for the launch of the National Ambulance Dispatch Centre (NADC).

The establishment of the NADC at Garissa County Referral Hospital marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s emergency medical response infrastructure. Designed to streamline and centralize emergency transit services across the region, the dispatch center will serve as a vital hub for coordinating rapid medical intervention, ensuring critical care reaches patients when every second counts.

At the heart of this national emergency care network is the rollout of the dedicated 922 emergency toll-free line. By dialing 922, citizens across the country will be connected directly to dispatch personnel equipped to assess urgent medical needs and deploy nearby emergency transport promptly.

This toll-free service aims to drastically reduce response times, bridge critical gaps between rural facilities and referral centers, and uphold equitable access to healthcare for all Kenyans.

Local healthcare administrators and public health stakeholders underscored the transformational impact of hosting the facility in Garissa, noting that efficient dispatch capabilities will significantly strengthen maternal, neonatal, and trauma care response across the region.

With logistics finalized and on-ground deployment complete, the launch of the National Ambulance Dispatch Centre stands as a cornerstone in the country’s commitment to building a resilient, responsive, and accessible emergency medical ecosystem.
