Man charged in Marsabit court over alleged motorcycle arson

A man has been charged before the Marsabit Law Courts with malicious damage to property after allegedly setting a motorcycle on fire in Mountain Ward, Marsabit Central Sub-County.

The accused, Mustafa Said Jillo, is alleged to have willfully and unlawfully burned a motorcycle belonging to Suleiman Hido Shano on June 25, 2026. The motorcycle was valued at KSh100,000.

Jillo was arrested on July 7, 2026, and arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Wekesa, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

During the court proceedings, the accused told the court that he had been assaulted by members of the public following the incident. In response, the court directed that he be taken to hospital for medical treatment before being returned to custody.

The court further ordered that Jillo be remanded at Marsabit Prison pending the hearing of his case.

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned on July 27, 2026, when the court is expected to issue further directions.

Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the alleged arson, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

As with all criminal proceedings, the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
