Kenyan rising star Frankline Kibet begins his campaign today at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships, carrying the nation’s hopes in the distance races.
The championships officially get underway today 5 August 2026 at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, and will run through August 9, bringing together the world’s best young track and field athletes to compete on the global stage.
Kibet is among the athletes expected to attract significant attention following his outstanding performances at the junior level, as Kenya looks to continue its rich tradition of excellence in middle and long-distance running.
Besides Kibet, the opening day of competition features qualifying heats in several events, along with finals in the men’s shot put, the men’s and women’s 5,000 metres, and the mixed 4×400-metre relay.
Other athletes expected to make a strong impression include American sprint sensation Quincy Wilson, who has earned widespread recognition for his performances in the 400 metres, and Jamaican rising star Shanoya Douglas, one of the brightest young sprint talents in the championships.
