KAKUMA – Stakeholders in Turkana West Sub-County have voiced strong support for a new menstrual and postpartum health program spearheaded by Days for Girls Kenya. The initiative is set to deliver vital health education to women and girls across both host and refugee communities, alongside the distribution of 2,826 washable, reusable menstrual health kits.
The distribution strategy leverages schools, health facilities, and community-based outlets to reach both school-going and out-of-school individuals in the region.
James Imoit, Officer in charge of Education, Sports, and Social Protection under the KISEDP framework, commended the organization for engaging sub-county leadership before rollout.
He urged local stakeholders to collaborate, noting that the initiative aligns with the host-refugee integration approach promoted by UNHCR and government agencies. Imoit emphasized that establishing a period- and postpartum-friendly environment in Turkana West will directly enhance the health and education of the local population.
To ensure long-term impact, Days for Girls Kenya will train local Community Health Promoters to deliver the educational modules directly to target groups. Annete Muchendiza, Country Program Manager at Days for Girls Kenya, confirmed that an MOU was recently signed with the County Government to ensure continuous collaboration with local administration.
The affiliate of Days for Girls International intentionally involved multi-sectoral partners to foster a sustainable, community-driven framework for reproductive health throughout the area.
