Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar has urged former Turkana County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water Services Wilyjustus Elim Lopeyok to challenge his dismissal in court, arguing that the decision could have lasting consequences for his professional career.
Speaking after Lopeyok’s removal from office, Namuar said the former county executive should seek legal redress if he believes the dismissal was unlawful or procedurally unfair, warning that the decision could affect his future employment prospects.
“If you believe the dismissal was unlawful or unfair, seek redress in the nearest court and have the decision set aside,” Namuar said.
Lopeyok was dismissed by the Turkana County Government over concerns relating to compliance with leadership and integrity standards.
Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, the former Water Services CECM accepted the decision with grace, thanking Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai for the opportunity to serve the people of Turkana.
In a statement issued after his dismissal, Lopeyok said he accepted the decision “with humility, respect and dignity,” describing his time in office as an honour and a valuable learning experience.
“I carried out that duty with dedication, commitment and all my heart. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity and the trust you placed in me. Wishing you God’s guidance and every success in the next chapter of your journey,” Lopeyok said.
He also thanked county government staff, development partners, stakeholders and the people of Turkana for their support during his tenure.
Lopeyok reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying he remained ready to serve the people of Turkana in any capacity in the future.
He was appointed County Executive Committee Member for Water Services following an official handover ceremony in June 2025.
The dismissal came barely a week after Lopeyok publicly criticized Turkana Health CECM Dr. Joseph Epem, urging him to engage residents directly rather than relying on intermediaries. The remarks came days after Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai publicly endorsed Dr. Epem as his preferred candidate for the 2027 Turkana South parliamentary seat, where Lopeyok is also widely viewed as a potential contender.
“Tell Dr. Epem to come and improve healthcare services instead of calling on others to greet people on his behalf. Why doesn’t he come and greet the people himself? If he doesn’t come, then let him keep his greetings,” Lopeyok said.
The timing of the dismissal has fueled speculation among some Turkana residents that the move may be linked to the county’s emerging 2027 political contest. However, the Turkana County Government has maintained that the decision was based on concerns relating to compliance with leadership and integrity standards, and county officials have not linked the dismissal to political developments.
