Masengeli urges youth to reject political violence and join scouting

Date:

Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has urged young people to reject involvement in political violence and instead pursue activities that promote discipline, leadership and national development.

Speaking after presiding over the closing ceremony of the Kenya National Scouts Competition camp in Thika, Masengeli said young people should not allow themselves to be used by politicians to fuel violence during political gatherings.

“I urge young people to abandon political violence and instead join the scouting movement, which instills discipline, patriotism, leadership and a sense of national responsibility,” said Masengeli.

He noted that the National Police Service will continue pursuing criminal gangs and individuals involved in violence and public disorder, warning that those responsible for disrupting peace will face the law.

Masengeli also dismissed claims that police selectively enforce the law against certain political leaders, maintaining that all Kenyans are equal before the law.

“Every Kenyan is equal before the law, and all police operations are guided by the Constitution and the law,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing public debate over the arrest and prosecution of political leaders accused of incitement, with some raising concerns over the impartial application of the law.
