The 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Games continued with exciting action on Day Two in Thika, as defending champions suffered a shock defeat while several football giants recorded commanding victories to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
The biggest upset of the day came in the girls’ volleyball competition, where Mwitoti Girls defeated defending champions Kwathanze Girls by three sets to one (3-1), with Mwitoti announcing themselves as serious contenders for this year’s championship.
In the boys’ football competition, St. Mary’s Yala made an impressive start with a 2-0 victory over Menengai Secondary School,the Siaya County side controlled proceedings throughout the match to earn all three points and begin their campaign on a positive note.
Former national champions Kakamega High School continued their excellent form, thrashing Tumaini Secondary School 4-0 to register their second consecutive victory of the tournament. The result follows their convincing 3-0 win over Takaba Secondary School on the opening day, leaving Kakamega with an impressive seven goals scored and none conceded.
In the girls’ football category, Raila Education Centre delivered one of the tournament’s most dominant performances, dismantling Misuuni Girls 6-0 in a one-sided encounter that showcased their attacking quality.
Archbishop Njenga Girls from Kakamega county also produced a statement victory after hammering Karibaribi Girls (Thika) 8-0, recording the biggest win of the tournament so far and strengthening their credentials as one of the favourites for the national title.
Day One (2nd August)had also produced exciting results, with Tumaini Secondary School defeating Baricho Secondary School 6-1, while Nyakach Girls secured a 2-0 victory over St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale to begin their campaign with maximum points.
With the group stage now gathering momentum, teams are battling for crucial points as they seek qualification for the knockout rounds with more action expected as schools from across Kenya continue their pursuit of national honours in Thika.
