Hundreds of residents in Garissa County have benefited from a free medical camp organised by the M-Pesa Foundation at Young Muslim Primary School grounds in Garissa town.
The initiative attracted more than 3,000 residents seeking medical consultations and treatment, according to M-Pesa Foundation Trustee Mahboub Maalim.
Speaking during the event, Maalim said the medical outreach was part of the foundation’s continued efforts to support communities facing challenges accessing healthcare services.
“According to our data, more than 3,000 people have turned up to receive medical services during this exercise,” Maalim said.
He added that the foundation has invested Sh1.1 billion in various sectors across Garissa County, with a substantial amount directed towards improving healthcare.
“Approximately Sh59 million has been spent in the health sector alone,” Maalim said.
Maalim called on residents to continue taking advantage of such programmes whenever they are organised, saying they provide critical support to people who may not afford medical services.
Residents who benefited from the initiative praised the foundation’s efforts, with Hussein Mohamed urging the organisation to return to Garissa for more medical outreach programmes.
“We are requesting the foundation to come back again and continue helping residents who still need treatment but cannot afford the costs,” Mohamed said.
Mohamed, who was also among those who received medical services, said such initiatives offer hope to vulnerable members of the community.
Another beneficiary, Fatima Sharifu, encouraged Garissa residents to turn up in large numbers whenever similar programmes are brought to the county.
“When such opportunities come, residents should come out in large numbers so they can benefit from the services,” Sharifu said.
The M-Pesa Foundation continues to support communities through programmes targeting healthcare, education and social development across the country.
