The 4th Devolution Sensitisation Week has officially commenced in Garissa County under the theme “Devolution for Better Health, Empowered Communities.” The weeklong initiative is designed to bridge the gap between governance and citizens, delivering key public services, promoting civic accountability, and showcasing the tangible gains achieved through Kenya’s devolved system of government.
Day One of the event demonstrated the immediate, practical impact of the initiative. Over 2,440 residents accessed free medical services through a dedicated medical camp. In addition to healthcare services, residents took advantage of a wide range of essential public services offered under one roof, including free medical services and health clinics, legal aid and consultation, Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, and civic education and public engagement.
Reflecting on the transformative journey since the inception of county governance under the 2010 Constitution, local officials emphasized how local leadership has altered service delivery across the nation, stating that “Thirteen years on, devolution is no longer just a promise it is practice.”
Garissa County stands out as a prime example of this progress, demonstrating significant investments across key sectors such as healthcare and water access, agriculture and livestock support, and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
The event unites both levels of government National and County alongside Parliament, development partners, civil society, and local citizens in a joint commitment to deepen devolution and elevate public service delivery.
Throughout the week, #DSW2026 provides an open platform for citizens to interact directly with decision-makers, seek clarity on government policies, and celebrate the developmental milestones achieved by county leadership.
