400km Chase: Gunman arrested in Kitale after robbing Marsabit boda boda rider

Police have arrested an armed robbery suspect in Kitale town who fled after stealing a motorcycle at gunpoint from a boda boda rider in Marsabit County more than 400 kilometers away.

The suspect was intercepted by police officers at a petrol station in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County. Marsabit County Commissioner Standley Kamande confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect was tracking toward the Kenya-Uganda border.

“The suspect was caught by police officers at a petrol station in Kitale with the motorcycle he stole in the Majengo area. The man was suspected to be on his way to the Kenya-Uganda border before he was intercepted,” Commissioner Kamande said.

The attack occurred last Friday at around 9:45 PM at the Majengo estate in Marsabit town. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect posed as a customer at the JJ Centre Stage, hiring the rider to take him to Majengo.

Upon reaching the destination, the suspect drew a pistol and demanded the motorcycle, a Boxer model with registration number KMGV 939W.

A struggle ensued, leaving the victim with minor injuries and bruises on his knees and palms. During the physical scuffle, the suspect dropped a mini Ceska pistol and ammunition before successfully escaping on the stolen bike.

Responding police officers quickly secured the crime scene and recovered the dropped firearm. The weapon is currently being held as vital evidence at the Marsabit Police Station to support the prosecution.

The multi-county tracking operation ended successfully with the suspect’s arrest in Kitale. He is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face criminal charges.
