Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has met with representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a comprehensive briefing on the Project for Strengthening Accountability in the Management of County Health Services (JICA SAMACH).
This pivotal five-year initiative, implemented in close partnership with the Ministry of Health alongside Kericho and Kirinyaga counties and now being scaled up to additional counties is designed to transform local healthcare management from the ground up.
By focusing on enhanced strategic planning, efficient resource allocation, evidence-informed decision-making, and heightened accountability, the initiative aims to build a more resilient public health system across Kenya.
During the high-level engagement, key stakeholders thoroughly reviewed the project’s milestones, shared valuable lessons learned, and evaluated strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of SAMACH tools and approaches beyond the official project timeline.
By embedding these data-driven planning methods and accountability frameworks permanently into county operations, the initiative ensures that local communities will continue to benefit from higher quality, transparent, and more reliable health service delivery for years to come.
