PORTO, Portugal — Erling Haaland scored a second-half double to give Manchester City a 2–0 victory over FC Porto in their UEFA Champions League opener at the Estádio do Dragão.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes where Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa produced several impressive saves, City struck immediately after the restart. In the 47th minute, Enzo Fernández delivered a pin-point cross for Haaland to head in off the post.
Porto pushed for an equalizer in a physical second half, but Haaland put the game beyond reach in stoppage time (90+1′), slotting home a right-footed finish to wrap up all three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.
