Reflecting on the legacy of Vision 2030, which was launched under President Mwai Kibaki to anchor the nation’s growth trajectory, Dr. Mungatana noted that as the current blueprint approaches its conclusion, President William Ruto has initiated Vision 2060 to steer the next phase of national development.
A defining feature of Vision 2060 is its collaborative approach: while the initial framework was crafted by renowned technocrats, including Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Professor Hino, President Ruto is opening the blueprint to a nationwide conversation. This commitment to public participation ensures that citizens across the country can actively contribute to and refine the final policy document.
Drawing a comparison to global economic powerhouses like China which sustains steady growth through long-term goals anchored by structured five-year and annual plans Dr. Mungatana highlighted the necessity of institutionalizing Kenya’s development vision into law.
Enacting Vision 2060 into legislation will ensure seamless continuity across successive administrations, guaranteeing that future leadership remains aligned with the country’s long-term economic development goals.
