TONUI APPOINTED NEW GSU COMMANDER IN MAJOR POLICE SHAKE-UP

Deputy Inspector General of Police Johana Kiplangat Tonui has been appointed as the new commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) in a series of sweeping changes announced by the National Police Service.

Tonui, who previously served as the Director of Operations, takes over the reins from Ranson Lolmodooni in a reshuffle that has affected three senior police commanders.

In the new appointments made by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General Fredrick Egesa Nyongesa has been named the new GSU Deputy Commander.

Concurrently, Paul Maingo Mumo has been appointed to head the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).

According to an official notice issued on June 10, 2026, IG Kanja stated that the National Police Service Commission has approved the changes, which take effect immediately.

This major shake-up comes just weeks after similar reassignments were made within the Presidential Escort Unit.
