Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has held consultations with Muslim community leaders from Eldama Ravine in Baringo County, focusing on the welfare, development and increased participation of the community in local leadership and decision-making.
The meeting, led by Eldama Ravine Member of Parliament Musa Sirma and Sheikh Issa Aljab, brought together leaders from the Eldama Ravine Muslim community to deliberate on issues affecting residents and explore areas of collaboration for the community’s social and economic development.
Duale said discussions centred on strengthening the participation of the Muslim community in local political leadership and decision-making, alongside other matters of mutual interest aimed at promoting the welfare of residents.
The leaders also raised the need for improved facilities to serve the growing Muslim population in Eldama Ravine. Sheikh Maalim Hassan, Chairman of the Eldama Ravine Jamia Mosque, invited Duale to officiate an upcoming resource mobilisation drive aimed at supporting the construction of a modern mosque in the area.
The proposed mosque is expected to provide an expanded place of worship and community facility for the growing Muslim population in Eldama Ravine.
Healthcare was also a key focus of the engagement, with the Muslim leaders committing to sensitise residents on the importance of registering with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The initiative is expected to complement the Government’s efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare and advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Duale welcomed the commitment, noting that community leaders have an important role to play in creating awareness and encouraging residents to take advantage of government programmes designed to improve access to essential services.
The meeting was attended by members of the Jamia Mosque Eldama Ravine Muslim leadership, including Organising Secretary Abdul Malik, Secretary Suleiman Omar, Mosque Trustee Shafii Abdalla and Mosque Patron Abdulqadir Ahmad.
The engagement comes as the Government continues to work with community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen access to healthcare while addressing broader social, economic and development needs at the grassroots level.
