Marsabit County Women Representative Hon. Naomi Jillo Waqo has called on local residents to acquire practical skills to improve their livelihoods and elevate their living standards. She made the remarks on Tuesday while presiding over the distribution of tools, equipment, and startup materials to local community groups engaged in income-generating activities in North Horr.
The initiative aims to move beyond temporary relief by providing residents with productive assets and hands-on skills. Among the items distributed were tents, chairs, and specialized equipment for masonry, carpentry, welding, electrical installation, and plumbing. Additionally, beneficiaries received resources for soap and detergent production, beekeeping, handcrafts, beadwork, umbrella sales, and foodstuff enterprises.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Hon. Waqo emphasized that long-term community growth relies on self-sufficiency. “Meaningful empowerment is about giving our people tools to create employment, generate sustainable incomes, and improve the well-being of their families and communities,” she stated.
The legislator noted that the intervention specifically targets women and youth as part of a broader strategy to foster entrepreneurship and inclusive development across Marsabit County. She added, “By investing in community driven enterprises, we are laying a strong foundation for shared prosperity and long-term socio-economic transformation across Marsabit County.”
Local leaders and beneficiaries warmly welcomed the support, noting that the equipment would allow small businesses to expand and generate job opportunities at the grassroots level. Expressing his gratitude during the event, local resident Aladeen Jaba praised the initiative, saying, “Good job Hon. Naomi, we appreciate your support and noble initiative, happy to see you in North Horr. Welcome again.”
