Treasury CS John Mbadi appoints six members to national infrastructure fund board

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has appointed six members to the Board of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), with their appointments taking effect immediately.

In a Kenya Gazette notice published on July 8, Mbadi said the newly appointed board members will serve a three-year term.

The appointees are James Mworia Mwirigi, the Chief Executive Officer of Centum Investment Company, Fahima Ali Ahmed Zein, Christopher Kibui Maranga, Latoya Ouna, Lawrence Kibet, and Mohammed Abdirahman Hassan.

The National Infrastructure Fund was launched by President William Ruto in March 2026 to finance major infrastructure projects across the country, including roads and the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Speaking during the launch, President Ruto said the fund would help Kenya finance strategic infrastructure projects while reducing the country’s reliance on external borrowing.

“The National Infrastructure Fund will enable Kenya to finance critical infrastructure projects using domestic resources while reducing dependence on foreign loans,” President Ruto said during the launch.

The first major project expected to be financed through the fund is the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with construction anticipated to begin soon.

The airport expansion project has been awarded to China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), one of China’s leading infrastructure construction firms.
