Woman trampled to death by Elephant in Marsabit forest, Saku Constituency

A middle-aged woman was trampled to death by an elephant on Wednesday afternoon in the Marsabit forest, located within Saku Constituency, Marsabit County.

The victim was part of a group fetching firewood inside the Marsabit National Reserve when the attack occurred at around 2pm. Fortunately, her companions managed to escape the encounter unharmed.

Marsabit County Commissioner Stanley Kamande confirmed the incident, using the tragedy to issue a stern warning to local residents particularly womenagainst entering the protected park without proper authorization.

Kamande emphasized that residents must obtain a permit or official approval before entering the reserve.

He noted that securing these permissions ensures the Kenya Wildlife Service or local authorities can provide adequate security against dangerous wild animals.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been moved to the Marsabit County Referral Hospital mortuary.
