SHA Steps Up Registration Campaign in Marsabit Amid Low Enrollment

The Social Health Authority (SHA), the State Department for Public Service, and the Kenya Civil Servants Union have intensified awareness campaigns in Marsabit County to encourage public servants and residents to register for the Social Health Insurance scheme.

Speaking during a sensitization forum in Marsabit, SHA Deputy Director for Registration and Compliance Floridah Mbogori urged members facing challenges accessing healthcare services to seek assistance from SHA offices.

“The success of SHA depends on public participation and understanding. We want every Kenyan to know the benefits of the scheme and how they can access healthcare services whenever they need treatment,” Mbogori said.

She encouraged public servants to help educate their families and communities about the program while emphasizing that SHA aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare for all Kenyans.

Public Service Department Director of Human Resource Management David Ayieko said the government is conducting nationwide awareness campaigns to help public servants understand and effectively utilize their medical benefits.

“We are here to understand how public servants are benefiting from the scheme, the challenges they face, and the quality of services they receive,” Ayieko said.

He noted that many complaints stem from incomplete registration, failure to update personal information, and unregistered dependents.

Meanwhile, Central Marsabit Assistant County Commissioner Richard Kong’a expressed concern over the county’s low enrollment rate, revealing that Marsabit ranks 46th out of 47 counties, with only 29 percent of residents registered.

“It is unfortunate that Marsabit remains among the lowest-performing counties in SHA registration,” Kong’a said, urging residents to enroll and benefit from the health coverage.

Officials expressed confidence that continued public awareness efforts will improve understanding of the scheme and increase registration across the county.
