The Senate County Public Accounts Committee has recommended investigations and legal action against Wajir County officials for failing to remit statutory staff deductions worth over Ksh 732 million.
The session, chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, established that the county has failed for several years to remit pension contributions and other statutory deductions to the relevant institutions.
Senators expressed deep concern, noting that employees have continued to suffer due to the failure to remit their deductions to the respective institutions.
Senator Moses Kajwang stated that the issue highlights a gross failure in public financial management and county accountability.
In his defense, Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi stated that a large portion of the debt was accumulated by the previous administration between 2018 and 2022.
