Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and six co-accused persons were on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, charged afresh at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) amended the charge sheet.
The charges stem from an alleged fraudulent media-buying contract awarded to Top Image Media Consultants Limited by the Murang’a County Government between October 2014 and June 2017, leading to a loss of KSh 351,097,491.15 in public funds.
The accused face counts of conspiracy to commit corruption, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and money laundering.
Prosecutors allege Wa Iria received KSh 31.8 million directly from Top Image Media Consultants during his tenure.
The DPP highlighted laundered funds routed toward property acquisitions, including KSh 7.5 million for a plot in Umoja (Nairobi), KSh 4.5 million for houses via Mlima Kenya Homes, and KSh 600,000 for borehole blasting in Nyeri.
All accused persons pleaded not guilty. Due to the charge sheet amendment, at least 13 prosecution witnesses will be recalled for further examination.
The case is scheduled for mention on September 17, 2026.
