MARSABIT — The FKF Marsabit Branch has sent heartfelt condolences to the families of two footballers who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Baringo County on Sunday night, expressing deep sorrow as the entire regional football fraternity stands united with the bereaved families during this painful moment.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, near Alem in Tiaty West Sub-County when a police lorry carrying players from Bongole FC and Barca FC lost control and overturned. The team was returning home after competing in the Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) Tournament finals held in Tot, Elgeyo Marakwet County an event that brought together over 2,000 participants from nine counties.
Following the impact, victims were rushed to Chemolingot Hospital for emergency medical care. Tragically, two players succumbed to their injuries, while three critically injured footballers were referred to Evans Hospital in Nakuru for specialized treatment, and the remaining players were treated for minor injuries and discharged.
In an official statement, FKF Marsabit extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the hospitalized players and offered comfort to the affected families. The deceased players’ bodies were transported to Nakuru on Monday night awaiting further direction, as the local football community continues to mourn the sudden loss.
