Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Julius Korir, has issued an official public apology to a Burundian national who was recently subjected to unfair mistreatment and administrative delays by immigration officers.
The move follows a thorough internal investigation into the incident, which sparked public concern over officer conduct and service standard compliance at border control points.
PS Korir expressed deep regret on behalf of the Ministry, acknowledging that the officer’s handling of the Burundian traveler fell below Kenya’s professional standards and public service values.
The state department confirmed that administrative action has been initiated against the individual officers involved in the lapse.
Korir emphasized Kenya’s commitment to maintaining smooth relations with East African Community (EAC) member states, noting that regional integration relies on fair treatment of all EAC citizens.
The Ministry announced immediate retraining measures for frontline immigration border staff to prevent similar operational friction.
“Kenya remains committed to upholding the highest standards of dignity, respect, and efficiency for all visitors and citizens passing through our entry points,” stated Korir in a public briefing addressing the issue.
