In a major breakthrough, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three more suspects connected to the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Among those apprehended is a serving police officer who was tracked down and arrested in Kampala, Uganda, following a coordinated cross-border operation between Kenyan investigative teams and the Uganda Police Force.
The joint operation, executed by a multi-agency team comprising the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, the Directorate of Operations, and the Homicide Directorate, utilized forensic evidence to track two of the suspects to the Kyanja Heights apartments in Nakawa, Kampala.
These two suspects Police Constable Bett Kiplangat Collins of Thogoto Police Station and civilian Pius Muiru Mbugua unlawfully crossed into Uganda following the killing. They are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station pending their extradition to Kenya.
Investigators reveal that Police Constable Bett was tasked with conducting surveillance and acting as an auxiliary driver for Daniel Mwangi Njoroge, the alleged mastermind.
Njoroge was driving a Land Cruiser Prado (KDH 600A) used to intercept the Uber vehicle carrying Dr. Mutiso in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on the morning of July 29, 2026, shortly before she was shot dead. Meanwhile, Mbugua served as the intermediary between the hit squad and the individual who commissioned the operation, overseeing the disbursement of funds for operational and travel expenses.
The third suspect, Samuel Karanja Gathoni, alias “Lawyer,” was intercepted by detectives in the Langata Multi-Media area while traveling toward Ongata Rongai.
Extradition arrangements are underway to return the two suspects from Uganda so all three can face due legal process in court. The National Police Service commended the Uganda Police Force for its instrumental support in apprehending and detaining the fugitives.
Addressing public and political scrutiny surrounding the high-profile case, the DCI firmly rejected unfounded claims made by some politicians, including allegations that suspects were secretly released or assisted in escaping by security officers.
The agency dismissed these assertions as false and reckless warnings that such narratives undermine public confidence and falsely portray detectives as accomplices.
The DCI reaffirmed that investigations remain active as teams continue working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the murder and bring all responsible parties to justice.
