SALZBURG, Austria — Reigning Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain claimed back-to-back UEFA Super Cup titles after edging Europa League winners Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night.
Désiré Doué scored the decisive second-half goal to secure the season-opening trophy for Luis Enrique’s side following a closely contested encounter.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute, cutting inside from the left wing and unleashing a powerful near-post strike past Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot.
Unai Emery’s side responded right before half-time when 17-year-old striker Brian Madjo, making his debut, latched onto a cross from captain John McGinn to fire home a left-footed volley into the top corner.
PSG regained the lead shortly after the hour mark. Ousmane Dembélé played through Désiré Doué, who finished neatly into the far corner. Though initially flagged for offside, a VAR review confirmed Matty Cash played Doué onside, validating the winning goal.
Aston Villa pressed for a second equalizer in the closing stages, but Emiliano Buendía headed maatsen’s late cross just wide of Matvey Safonov’s post.
This is amazing, winning this trophy is amazing. You have to win the Champions League first to get here, and to defend the Super Cup title is really special for us.” Désiré Doué,
With this victory, PSG kick off their 2026–27 campaign with silverware as they look to defend their European and domestic titles.
