West Pokot, August 4, 2026 — The County Government of West Pokot has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Cohesion an Integration Commission (NCIC) in an effort to promote peace, unity and social cohesion
through youth empowerment and cultural initiatives.
The commitment emerged during a consultative meeting held on August 4, 2026, between county officials and an NCIC delegation, where both parties discussed practical ways of deepening cooperation to enhance peaceful coexistence across the
county.
The county delegation was led by the County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs and Social Services, Ms. Lucky Litole, accompanied by Chief Officers Benjamin Kilelan of Youth Affairs and Social Services and Rebecca Chebet of Culture. They held discussions with an NCIC team led by the Commission’s Vice Chairperson, Irene Tulel.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Litole emphasized the importance of working together to build a peaceful and united society through initiatives that actively involve young
people.
“The County Government remains committed to partnering with NCIC in promoting peace, unity and social cohesion through youth empowerment and cultural initiatives
that bring our communities together,” she said.
The discussions focused on preparations for the upcoming Osil Festival and its potential
to serve as a platform for engaging young people in championing peace, cultural appreciation and unity across West Pokot County. Participants noted that the festival
presents an opportunity to strengthen community bonds while celebrating the county’s
rich cultural heritage.
NCIC Vice Chairperson Irene Tulel said the Commission values partnerships that create
spaces for dialogue and peaceful engagement among communities.”The Osil Festival provides an important opportunity to promote dialogue, inclusion and
peaceful coexistence while empowering young people to become ambassadors of
peace within their communities,” she said.
The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration between the County
Government and NCIC in supporting the festival as a forum for dialogue, inclusion and peaceful coexistence, reinforcing a shared commitment to fostering lasting peace and
social harmony throughout West Pokot County.
