Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has urged security agencies in Garissa County to intensify the fight against crime, warning that no one should be spared in efforts to restore law and order.
Speaking in Garissa during the second phase of the government’s NYOTA Programme funds disbursement to more than 5,000 youth, Duale called on police officers to remain firm in dealing with criminal activities and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“When it comes to matters of security, no one should be spared. Security agencies must remain vigilant and take decisive action against anyone involved in criminal activities,” Duale said.
The Cabinet Secretary also warned parents against shielding children involved in criminal activities, saying anyone found obstructing justice should face legal consequences.
“Parents who protect or defend children involved in crime should also be held accountable. The law must take its course without fear or favour,” he added.
Duale commended the national government for increasing development projects in the North Eastern region, saying the area had for many years lagged behind in development.
He noted that ongoing government investments are helping transform the region through programmes aimed at empowering young people and improving livelihoods.
The Cabinet Secretary urged beneficiaries of the NYOTA Programme to invest the funds wisely instead of spending the money on non-productive activities.
“Use these funds to start and grow businesses that will improve your lives and create opportunities for others. Do not waste this opportunity,” he told the youth.
Garissa Governor Nathif Jama assured the beneficiaries that the county government would issue them with business permits free of charge to support the establishment of their enterprises.
He warned county officials against demanding payment for the permits, saying any officer found charging beneficiaries would face disciplinary and legal action.
“Every youth who has received NYOTA funds will be issued with a business permit free of charge. Anyone who asks them for money will face strict legal action,” Governor Jama said.
The NYOTA Programme is one of the government’s youth empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs through financial assistance, skills development and business support services to reduce unemployment and promote economic growth.
